Why journal?

Journaling is one of the most effective ways to clear your mind and take insight and wisdom from your Inner world. Expressive writing and journaling help us to process emotions and create internal space for growth - which can have positive ripples out to our emotional, mental, and even physical health. 

Without this space to unpack and process the stories, fears, worries and joys we experience as humans, we can find ourselves stuck - unable to take action through the undigested experiences of our lives. Stuck reliving narratives and stories we carry with us, across generations - narratives we may have outgrown.

Most of all, I want to encourage you to choose intuitively where you are ready to go within these journal explorations… these pages are just for you - you don't have to share them with anyone else.

You are invited to engage with these prompts through a medium that is meaningful to you. You may like to express through writing, voice notes, painting, drawing or collage, songwriting, dance and movement, or any other form of expression you choose.

About the creator

Hey, Jasmin here - Brisbane-based creative and embodied social worker.

I know that creative expression allows us to delve into our emotions, express our thoughts and feelings in a helpful way, and gain a deeper understanding of ourselves. However, when I first began journaling, I wasn’t really sure what I was meant to be doing.

On the one hand, my inner perfectionist would tell me I wasn’t doing it right, and on the other hand, I would end up either: diarising (writing out the events of my day), or venting (pouring onto the page all the things that were troubling me)...

Personally, neither of these approaches worked for me in a sustainable way.

I didn’t feel that diarising was building a deeper connection with myself (and without a strong ‘why’ I didn’t stick with my practice). Venting often left me feeling worse than when I started - I would open up all the hurt or frustration and walk away from the pages feeling tired and exposed…and like nothing had shifted.

Releasing the pressure to write a certain way, and instead opening up curious self-enquiry whilst adding in the missing layer of a nurturing voice within my journaling has made all the difference - creating a practice that I WANT to turn to - to unpack, process, and explore things with myself…AND one that helps me move through experiences, wrapping me in care along the way, so I can walk away from the pages feeling deeply supported…by…me! It’s been life changing!

Creating this journaling resource is my way of sharing these deeper journaling practices with you - offering you a supportive space to explore your creativity, gain insights into your self and unlock new levels of self-expression through journaling.
